Cal-PASS (California Partnership for Achieving Student Success)

In May 2009, three Cal-PASS Professional Learning Councils (PLC) launched in the Coachella Valley.

Cal-PASS (California Partnership for Achieving Student Success) is an initiative that collects, analyzes and shares student data in order to track performance and improve success from elementary school through university. Utilization of the Cal-PASS Core Values represents a new approach to improving education. ( http://www.cal-pass.org)

Currently, Cal-PASS convenes 66 PLCs with more than 1,200 faculty and other educators monthly across the state to align curricula outcomes in English and math from 11th grade through transfer level at community colleges. These councils are also working to embed contextualized assignments from career/technical education courses into math and English courses, and to embed in career/technical education courses the English and math elements that are basic to all curricula.

Coachella Valley Unified School District, Desert Sands Unified School District, Palm Springs Unified School District, College of the Desert, California State University San Bernardino, and University of California Riverside are participating in the local Cal-PASS program.

The Health Careers PLC – the first career technical education related PLC in the state -- is being convened in collaboration with the Desert Tech Prep Regional Consortium and the CVEP Healthcare Industry Council.
